John lived an amazing life. After serving in the Korean War, he went to College in Mexico City on the G.I. Bill. He always joked that the "gas and margaritas were cheap there!" After college, John accepted a position with PepsiCo International. Despite being fluent in Spanish, PepsiCo sent him to the Far East. He was transferred to Bogota, Columbia where he met his first wife and love, Perla. They moved frequently with their 2 children, living in Columbia, Chile, Peru, and three years in Barbados. Eventually John and Perla decided to return to the family carnival business and made their home in Austin.
Perla unexpectedly passed in 1985. In 1993, Mary Jo had the great fortune of marrying the love of her life. They had almost 23 years of love, laughter and world travels. They spent their summers in Breckenridge, CO where they fished, golfed and made many new friends. John will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom and wonderful wit.
John was pre-deceased by his parents Helen and Frank Culver, sister, Verna Mae Lusk, his first wife Perla, and daughter Claudia Pattillo.
John is survived by his second wife Mary Jo, son John Culver II, his step children Ted Ramsey, Catherine Ramsey Meehan and Charlotte Ramsey Cole. He is also survived by sister Patricia Goolsby and brother Frank Culver. John leaves behind 13 grandchildren who know him lovingly as "Papa" and numerous nieces and nephews who all adored their "Uncle Skip".
Services will be held on Saturday, September 10th at 10:30 at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 8134 Mesa Drive.
