He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother C.C. Crutchfield, Jr. Born to Melba Cannan and Cicero Cohron Crutchfield, Sr. in Yoakum, Texas on April 18, 1936.
John came to Austin when he was just 6 months old. He graduated from Austin High School in 1954 and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Botany from the University of Texas in 1959. He was the Resident Manager of the Brackenridge Field Lab in Austin for 47 years and worked at the University for 50 years. After retirement, he then worked part-time hoping to make 60 years and almost got there. John had land and cows in Bertram, Texas and loved every minute he was able to spend there; he loved the outdoors.
