John Earle Clemens John Earle Clemens was born in Longview, Texas to Claude Caesar and Mary Castleberry Clemens on September 6, 1912. He was married to the former Elsie Lawrence Rains. Preceding him in death were his son-in-law Jack Garner Fritts and grandson Cole Weston LaGrone. John is survived by Elsie, his wife of 69 years; daughter Gaye Fritts; granddaughter Sandra Walker and husband Robert; their sons Christopher and Ryan: and granddaughter Sarah LaGrone and her sons John, Sam and Michael. A lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church, John served as deacon and elder many times. He participated in the christening of each of his grandsons. An honor graduate of Longview High School, he attended Schreiner Institute, Kerrville, Texas and Stephen F. Austin College in Nacogdoches, Texas. John was a Certified Public Accountant and enjoyed teaching accounting, taxation and law courses. John was a State Auditor for the State of Texas for five years and the Director of School Audits for the Texas Education Agency for five years. He was the Business Manager and Assistant Superintendent of the Austin Independent School District for fifteen years. He retired from the Texas State Legislative Budget Board after ten years of service. His honesty, integrity and ethics were well known in the business community. Johns loving, generous spirit touched the lives of many. He will live in the hearts of his family and friends forever. The family wishes to thank the staff of Arden Courts for their kind and gentle care. In lieu of flowers, those desiring, may make donations to the Alzheimers Association in Johns memory. Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 4, 2003, at 10:00 a.m., at Austin Memorial Park, Hancock Drive. The Reverend Bill Clark, Westminster Presbyterian Church, will officiate.
