John Bratton John Bratton, age 70 of Volente, Texas, passed away after a long battle with Cancer on Sunday, January 30, 2005. He will be remembered for his unwavering strength and courage throughout a long fight with his illness. He was born on June 15, 1934 at St. Davids Hospital in Austin, Texas to Archie Rex Bratton and Helen Marie Stullken Bratton. John grew up in and around Austin all of his life. He was an asbestos worker for Local 87 for almost 50 years. He married his wife Frances April 15, 1967 in Austin, Texas. He and Frances bought their house on Lake Travis in Volente in 1969. John loved to fish and run his trot lines. He loved having a big fish fry every year for all of his friends and most all of Volente would come. John loved his two Dachshunds, Dollie and Hercules. They all loved to curl up together for long naps and share ice cream. John was a long time member of First Lakeview Church of Volente and past member of the Volente Volunteer Fire Department. Wife, Frances Bratton of 38 years survived him as do his sons and their spouses, Leonard Skip Lankford and wife Jean Lankford of Georgetown, Texas and Chris Lee Bratton and wife Cheryl Bratton of Round Rock, Texas. One brother, Archie Robert AR Bratton of Austin, Texas, 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at Weed Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Keith Yarbrough and Reverend Larry Schieffer officiating. Burial will follow at IOOF Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas. Honoring him as pallbearers will be his grandson Alvin Lankford and his friends and co-workers Jack McClure, Bill White, Ed Wilhelm, George Doyle and Clarence Senkel. The family would like to thank Hospice of Austin for all of their love and care that was given to John and the family during this very difficult time.
