Joan Kay Vogt, 60, fought a courageous battle with cancer before succumbing on November 30, 2006. She was born December 14, 1945, in Lima, Ohio. Joan was raised in Kenton, Ohio, where she was active in the Methodist church and Rainbow Girls before high school graduation in 1964. She graduated in 1969 from Miami University of Ohio and in 1971 from the University of Oklahoma with a Masters Degree in Nutrition. She worked as a dietician for the Marriot Corporation and then as a realtor in Houston and Austin before joining her husband in the family automotive business in the early 90s. She enjoyed time in her garden ensuring something in bloom year-round. She worked tirelessly and endlessly on many home projects, achieving much pride and personal satisfaction. Joan was also a devoted University of Texas football fan, attending all but two home games since 1989 and many away games as well. The house is filled with burnt orange. Joan relished one-on-one time with her grandchildren and her inability to say no made her a favorite of theirs with non-stop ice cream and popsicles. If they wanted a new toy, they always knew who to ask. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Inez Overly, sister, Wilma Wolf, and daughter, Elizabeth Vogt McGowen. She will be greatly missed by devoted husband, William Harold Vogt Sr. of Austin, brother Larry Overly of Austin, son Harold Vogt and wife Jennifer of Missouri City, Texas, daughter, Valerie Todorovich of Phoenix, Arizona, niece, Shannon Rasch and husband Bob of Austin, mother-in-law and father-in-law Herman and Vennis Vogt of Seguin, Texas, great-niece Courtney Rasch, grandchildren Natasha and Nick Todorovich, Meredith, Christopher, and William Michael Vogt, God-daughter Emilia Edmonson and husband David, and many other beloved family members and friends. Joan will also be missed by her cherished poodles, Josie, Sam and Hardy. The family would like to express their gratitude to special friends Bob and Caroline Guerin for their love, comfort and compassion during Joans difficult illness. Family visitation will be at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin, Texas on December 4, 2006 from 6-8pm. Services will be held December 5, 2006 at the Chapel at Riverbend Church, 4214 Capital of Texas Highway, Austin at 10am with graveside services at McNeil Community Cemetery in Luling, Texas at 2pm. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Christopher House of Hospice Austin, 2820 E Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Austin, 78702. Obituary and guestbook online at wcfish.com
