Jim was born on July 3rd, 1933 in Temple, Texas. He was the son of the late Jesse and Elsa (Reed) Siler.
He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and retired from IBM (International Business Machines) after working for them for 35 years. His favorite hobby was designing, making and flying kites having won lots of awards for many, many years at the annual Zilker Park Kite Festival. He was an avid bridge player, loved jigsaw puzzles and reading.
In 1952, Jim married his high school sweetheart Joanne Hale who preceded him in death in 2007.
Surviving him is his longtime friend and companion of 15 years, Elneta Owens; three sons, Bruce Siler and Jody Van Dijk of San Antonio, Barry Siler of Austin and Allan Siler and Renee DuBose of Leander; two grandchildren, Austin and Bianca Siler.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from 6 to 8 PM at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home located at 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, Texas. Funeral services will be held the following day, Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 11 AM, also at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home. A graveside committal service will follow where Jim will be buried alongside his wife and daughter-in-law, Bobbi Henley-Siler, at the Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, located at 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas. Military honors will be accorded at the gravesite.
