Alex was born on September 19th,1986 in Houston, Texas, the second child of Jesus Alanis Cortez and Patricia Ann Gonzales. He graduated from Canton High School in 2005. After high school he set his sights on becoming a veterinarian technician. He worked as a veterinarian technician before he entered into the service industry. He quickly worked his way up from being a dishwasher, to lead line cook, and then accepted a position as a Sous Chef. He was a talented and respected Sous Chef, but ultimately found happiness with a career change into apartment maintenance. He enjoyed this job because it allowed him to be laid back, and most of all because of the treasures he would find, including the very jacket and shoes he is wearing today.
Alex was a great Man, Devoted Father, and Loving Partner. The last several years of his life were spent building a life and home with Nicole Luna – who he called his “Baby boo boo- love love”, his two sons, Alejandro Trust Cortez & Jaime Rey Vicente Cortez and their fur babies Nacho and Mr. Kitty. He loved his family and especially his Mama his “Lady”.
Alex was one of a kind- He was a total jokester with an offbeat sense of humor. He had a passion for his project cars, also known as his “baby girls”. He had an eclectic sense of fashion and prided himself that most of his wardrobe came from Goodwill. If you knew Alex, you would know how much he loved music. It was important for him to have his sons grow up exposed to music. From the moment he brought them home from the hospital, and throughout their life, Alex and his sons spent a lot of time in his music room, playing their drums and guitars for hours on end. His family and friends will always remember his unique and fun-loving spirit.
Alex was lucky enough to come from a large, blended family. He was preceded in death by his Great Grandparents Rudolfo and Adela Rena, Grandparents Jesus Garcia, Maria Del Carmen Alanis, Raquel Moreno, Gilberto Moreno, and Robert Huddler, his Godmother Diana Camacho, Great Aunt Carmen Rena, Great cousins Raymond Gonzales, and Jaime Camacho, Uncle George Rena, and Aunt Yolanda Cortez. Alex is survived by his Father Jesus Cortez, his Mother and Step-Father Patricia and Paul Griggs, his Grandmother Edna Huddler, his Grandfather Thomas Sanchez, his Soul Mate Nicole Luna, his Children Alejandro and Jaime Cortez, his sister and brother-in-law Adelaida and Eduardo Jaimes, his brothers Seth Cortez, Paul Isaac Griggs, his sister Isabella Griggs and his niece Naomi Ross.
A funeral is scheduled for January 12th, 2020 at 1:00 pm, with a reception to follow. Deacon Alfred Benavides will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Alex’s Life.
