Jerry Williams

Geraldine Mercer Williams, of Austin, Texas, was born February 16, 1939, and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 5, 2023, having lived a life of gratitude, faithful to her God, serving her church, and loving her family. Jerry was born in Gonzales, Texas, to Richard Lee Mercer and Faye Gertrude Mercer, the second of two children joining her brother, Charles Richard Mercer. After graduating high school in Gonzales, Jerry received her bachelor’s degree from Baylor University then went on to get her Master of Library Science from Texas Woman’s University. She later moved to Amarillo, Texas where she worked as a librarian and met her husband, Paul Williams.

Paul and Jerry married in 1966 and moved to the Anderson Mill neighborhood of North Austin with their young family in the early 1980s. Jerry along with her husband were there at the beginning of Anderson Mill Baptist Church and she treasured her church family. There was nothing she enjoyed more than working in the baby room during Sunday School. She was an unofficial grandmother to so many children that came through the doors of AMBC. She was an avid crafter and had many interests over the years. Some of them included making candles, necklaces out of buttons or old church bulletins, ceramics, crocheting, and sewing quilts and accessories.

Jerry joins her husband Paul in Heaven and is survived by her three children: her eldest, Shelly, her middle, Lori & son-in-law, Adam, and her youngest, Richard. She is also survived by two very beloved pups, Bella and Daisy, as well as her sister-in-law, Katherine Mercer.

Jerry’s funeral will be held at Anderson Mill Baptist Church this Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Jerry will be interred at IOOF Cemetery in Gonzales, Texas, on Tuesday, November 14. In lieu of flowers, the Family requests that donations be made at guidestone.org to support retired Southern Baptist ministers, workers, and their widows through the ministry Mission: Dignity.

She will be missed for her unbounding love and grateful heart.
