She graduated from Robstown High School and attended the University of Texas and Mary Hardin Baylor College where she received a bachelor's degree in Home Economics.
Jean married Walter Stone of Robstown, Texas, in 1942 at Chanute Field, Champagne, Illinois on the eve of his departure overseas to serve in the European Theater of Operations during World War II.
She taught at Mary Hardin Baylor College and San Marcos Academy. When the war ended Jean and Walter made their home in Robstown where they raised three daughters, Cheryl Guerry, Janet (Jan) Hughes and Dana Stone.
She was a docent for the Corpus Christi Museum of Art. She was an avid bridge player and played at every opportunity. Some of her funniest stories were about what happened at the bridge table that day. She had many "bridge" friends in Robstown and in Austin.
She was a resident of Robstown, Texas, until 2005 when she moved to Austin, Texas.
Jean was a member of the First Methodist Church in Robstown and attended Tarrytown Methodist Church in Austin.
Jean was predeceased by her husband, Walter Stone and her daughter, Janet Stone Hughes.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Guerry and Dana Stone, and a son-inlaw, David Hughes; four grandchildren, Jay Corder and wife Daphne of Austin;Dr. Denise Laurienti and husband Paul of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Sarah Queen and husband Thomas of Austin; Mary Clare Matthews and husband James of Austin; and seven great grandchildren, Jennifer and Lauren Corder; Jillian and Hughes Laurienti; Campbell and Sally Queen; and Jackson, Madison Clare (Maddie) and Julia Jones (Jonesie) Matthews. To her grandchildren and great grandchildren she was Mimi.
The family would like to thank Jean's caregivers, Dr. Michael Pelliegrini, the nursing staff at Seton Hospital, nursing staff at Westminster skilled nursing and assisted living, and Sonder Hospice.
