She was predeceased by her parents, and her husband, Edson Irving Case.
Jean was nicknamed "Dusty" as a teen because of her blonde hair, and the alliteration created when coupled with her last name of Davis.
Dusty met Edson Irving Case while at American University, and married in early January, 1953, after the couple moved to Houston.
Clinton Edson entered the family on May 1, 1954, followed rather quickly the following March by second son, Bradford Grant.
Mom was swimming in a sea of diapers for a couple years, while Dad was beginning a career in radio. Soon, though, Dusty felt the pull of show biz. Bandleader, Shep Fields, had moved to Houston, and recruited Dusty to help start his entertainment booking agency at the Bayou City's iconic Shamrock Hilton Hotel.
By the 1970s, Dusty was fully involved in the booking of musical acts nationwide, and even evolved into management, taking over the career of country singer, Lampasas native, Dale McBride. Dale had several national country western hit songs throughout the '70s, and Dusty continued both managing Dale, and booking acts well into the '90s. Sadly, Dale passed away in 1991, with a brain tumor.
Brad moved to Austin in '93 to help Dusty with her booking biz, and the two ended up living together for the next two decades, before Mom moved into Trinity Care Center in Round Rock. Her 4 1/2 years there were spent happily, and in the expert care of the Trinity staff. Dusty got to see Brad perform his karaoke hits twice a month, while she also dabbled in crafts, Bingo, and the occasional Scrabble game Brad dragged out.
Mom finally succumbed to the respiratory issues that had plagued her for several months, but she didn't go without a fight. Four days prior to her last breath, a favorite staff member checked in on Dusty, and found her sleeping. Upon awakening, the staffer asked her what she was doing. "I'm dreaming," Dusty replied. When asked "What are you dreaming about," Dusty replied, simply, "I'm dancing."
Dusty breathed her last around 7:15pm, Christmas Eve, peacefully and painlessly.
A memorial service for Ms. Case will be held on Saturday, January 14th at 2:00pm at Weed-Corley-Fish, 3125 N. Lamar, with a reception (with light snacks/appetizers) to follow at Mimi's Cafe.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests contributions to Meals on Wheels San Diego County, 2254 San Diego Ave. #200, San Diego, CA 92110, or a charity of your choice.
