Jay was born on October 19, 1997, in Killeen, Texas. He was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in October of 2014. Even though Jay was battling cancer, he was still able to graduate on time from Hays High School in June of 2016. Jay was a member of Marine JROTC in high school and on the Rifle Team. Jay dreamed of joining the military and becoming a police officer. He loved to play paintball, Blazer Tag and computer games. He also loved the outdoors and enjoyed all types of fishing. Jay was always a shining light and well known for his positive attitude and his signature thumbs up. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
Jay is survived by his mother Stephanie Schafer, step-father Steve Schafer, brother Max Schafer, step-siblings Tony, Alex and Morgan Schafer. Jay is also survived by his father Ely Reyes, step-mother Romnee Reyes, sister Isabella Reyes and brother Xander Reyes.
Jay was preceded in death by his Grandmother Sheila Taylor and his brother Tyler Reyes.The family would like to acknowledge the staff from The Children Blood and Cancer Center, Texas Oncology and Austin Hospice for their tremendous support throughout his journey.
