Janice B. Treadwell died peacefully July 9, 2008 surrounded by her three children filled with gratitude and love. She was predeceased by her husband Reverend Joel C. Treadwell of Austin. Born in Port Barre, LA on March 24, 1930, to Dr. Joseph W. and Thelma Brown Brouillette. Siblings Dr. J.W. Brouillette (recently deceased) of Bath, NY and Jean Martha Forester of New Orleans, LA. Attended schools in Baton Rouge, LA graduating from Baton Rouge H. S. in 1947 where she was the President of the French Club and member of the National Honor Society. She attended Louisiana State University from 1947-1950 and belonged to Phi Mu Sorority. She received a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics in 1951 and later received a Master's degree in English in 1972 from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA. Janice lived in various places in Texas and Louisiana during her life as an Episcopal minister's wife. She taught home economics, science and English in Arlington, VA, Hereford, TX, and Natchitoches, as well as Tallulah, LA. Mother of Joel C. Treadwell and wife Bea of Covington LA, Mary Jan Treadwell Duke and husband John of Austin and Jill Treadwell Svendsen and husband Bob of Encinitas, CA. Grandchildren include Linley and Jackson Duke of Austin and Michael and Kyle Svendsen of Encinitas. While living in Austin, Janice was active in many organizations and served as President of both the Phi Mu Alumni group and Chapter 2700 AARP. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church for 25 years. An avid reader, she participated in multiple book study groups and published an autobiography, There Were No Zip Codes Then, which chronicled life growing up in the depression years. Family members include Dr. & Mrs. Wilbur (Bill) Treadwell, nephew and niece Stephen Treadwell and Sarah Benak; Dr. Morris Treadwell (deceased) and wife Doris, niece and nephew Kelly Lynn Byrd and Allan Treadwell; and Dr. & Mrs. John Treadwell, nieces Leah Treadwell, Larah Walker, Lochen Wood and Lindsay Rosenthal. Family thanks are extended to Dr. Laura Guerrero of Austin Diagnostic Clinic and Dr. Kevin Donor of Southwest Regional Cancer Center who shepherded her through her final times of illness. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 26th at 11:00 am at St. John's Episcopal Church, 11201 Parkfield Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support youth ministries at St. John's.
