Born in Brownsville, Texas, on December 28, 1941, Janice was the daughter of Robert and Gertie Jelinek. She grew up in Brownsville, and as a young woman, moved to Houston, Texas, where she was a manager at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She married James Koss in 1971, and gave birth to two sons, James and Robert. Following her retirement, she moved to Austin, Texas, where she lived for more than 20 years.
The deep-rooted love and respect of her family and friends is a true testament of her lifelong devotion to her family. Nothing was more important to Janice than her family. She never missed a family birthday or special occasion and was always there to cheer for and celebrate family members’ successes and achievements. She had a passion for life that included traveling to her favorite places; Hawaii and Cabo San Lucas. She loved the ocean and going to the beach and her fondest memories are of family vacations there.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Merton Armitage and Kenneth Jelinek, and her sister, Betty Anderson. Janice will be dearly missed by her husband, James Koss, sons, James Koss, Jr., and Robert Koss of Houston, Texas; beloved granddaughter, Conner Koss of Friendswood, Texas; sister and best friend, Bobbie Thompson and her husband, Bill Thompson of Austin, Texas; sister-in-law, Mary Jelinek of Austin, Texas; and many nieces and nephews and their children, all of whom loved and cherished her.
The family would like to thank the doctors who cared for Janice: Drs. Michael Gutierrez, Javier Otero, David Pohl, Chad Whited, and Michael Shapiro. Janice was very fond of them and they were very fond of her. They provided her with wonderful and compassionate care. Additionally, thanks to the staff at St. David’s Hospital who were especially kind and caring during Janice’s final days.
Funeral Services will be at 3:30 P.M., Wednesday, September 20, 2017, in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with Brian Rawson officiating. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
