The daughter of Marian and Victor Racanelli, Jan was born November 21, 1961 in Dallas, Texas. She and her twin brother, Jim, were the youngest of six siblings joining older sister Vikki, and older brothers Mike, Richard, and John. Jan grew up in Richardson, Texas where she graduated from Richardson High School. She attended The University of Texas at Austin and The University of Texas at Arlington where she graduated with her BSN. Jan worked 6 years at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas before moving to Austin and working 32 years at Seton Medical Center. Jan was Clinical Manager of the preoperative and postoperative departments.
Jan was characterized and driven by her strong Christian faith, love of family, friends and of course her dogs. She was a mentor to many and an inspiration to all she met. Both on the job and off, she showed genuine care and compassion to everyone. She had a knack of being able to talk to anyone she met and made them feel they had been lifelong friends. Never one to sit idle, she took a work hard, play hard approach to life.
In her brief retirement, Jan took art lessons and applied herself to writing and illustrating a book about her life and her values as a legacy gift for her future grandchildren. It was also a special glimpse for her family and friends into her love of nature.
People come into our lives for all sorts of reasons. Some teach us life lessons we never forget. Some nurture us and help us become better people. Some simply love us with all their hearts. Jan was extraordinary in that she did all those things and more.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents Marian and Victor, and brothers Mike and Richard. She is survived by her husband Rex Stallings Jr (Bubba), daughter Katy Cockburn and husband Barney, daughter Megan Ambrose and fiancé Caleb Allemand, granddaughter Maribelle, sister Vikki Pearce and husband David, brother John Racanelli and wife Alicia, brother Jim Racanelli and wife Elisa, numerous nieces and nephews, and her companions Nitro and Chief.
