Janelle Cromeans Wilkins, 88, went home to be with her Father God at 5:05 AM, Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Southpark Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Janelle was born on January 25, 1926 in Mexia, Texas. She was a longtime resident of Austin where she worked for 20 years at the Austin UT Computation Center as Personal Director and Budget Officer until she retired in 1975.
Janelle’s husband, Oscar Lewis “Pete” Wilkins preceded her in death in 1993.
Survivors include Harvey Oates, James and Sandy Oates, David and Gwen Wilkins, and Steve and Carolyn Williams as well as multiple grandchildren and great –grandchildren. Janelle was also blessed to be surrounded by many cherished friends including Maria Hart who was her personal caregiver and “sister/elbow” during recent years and Marcia Dunson, a long-time friend.
Janelle was passionate about college football, especially Texas A&M. She loved the outdoors, wildflowers, fishing, sewing, quilting, chocolate, friends and family. Janelle was a great mentor and, after her retirement, she enjoyed her work with various church groups as she served the elderly in nursing homes, travelled to many wonderful places both in and out of the country and fellowshipped with good friends.
The family welcomes you to visitation from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
The service to celebrate Janelle’s life and her Homegoing will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 2, 2014, also at Cook Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Pastor Jeff Loomis will be officiating. The burial will be at the Puryear Cemetery – directions will be made available after the service.
