James Robert Bob Phillips James Robert Bob Phillips was born in San Augustine, Texas on December 4, 1920 to James Andrew and Margaret Young Phillips. He was Salutatorian of his San Augustine, Texas graduating class of 1938. He graduated with honors from Southwestern University in Georgetown and received his Masters Degree from the University of Texas- Austin. Bob served in the US Marine Corps from 1942 1945. Bob taught for several years at the Texas School for the Deaf in Austin, Texas then worked for Henry S. Goodman, a television producer in New York City. He joined Steck-Vaughn Publishing Co. in Austin, Texas in 1958, one of the largest publishers in the Southwest as an editor. He was named director of the art and production department and designed or supervised the design of all materials published by Steck-Vaughn. In 1978 he was named Vice President and member of the Board of Directors. Since his retirement he has been a dealer of antique silver. He is survived by his sister, Margaret A.(Peggy) Metteauer of Austin; and sister Patricia (Pat)Pate and brother-in-law, Nelson Pate of Holly Lake, Texas; and nieces and nephews: Melinda Metteauer, Austin Texas, Marc Metteauer, Waxahachie, Texas, Michael Metteauer, Austin Texas, Barbara Pate Winfield, Crockett , Texas, Kent Pate, Sulphur Springs, Texas and Phil Pate, Gilmer Texas . The family wants to express gratitude and thanks to caregivers Maggie Goodman and Monique Johnson A private memorial service will be held in San Augustine at Memorial Cemetery.
