Jim moved to Leander, Texas from Indiana in 1947. He graduated from Leander High School in Leander, Texas in 1955. After high school he attended Durham’s Business College in Austin where he received a Business Certificate.
He worked for various state agencies. However, the majority of his state service was with the Texas Department of Transportation. He retired after 37 years of service to the State of Texas.
Jim married Shirley Simpson in 1956 in Leander, Texas. They were happily married for 62 years. Jim was a member of Northwest Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family in his retirement.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel and Elizabeth Keithley, and his sisters Guyulla Reardon, and Delores Keithley.
Jim is survived by his wife, Shirley of Austin, TX; his son, Steve Keithley, and his wife Tamara of San Marcos, TX; his daughter Sharon Golden, and her husband Russell Golden of Leander, TX; his brother, Jerry Keithley Sr. of Bastrop, TX; his grandchildren, Robert Keithley (Rachel), Regan Keithley, Kellon Golden, Kameron Golden, and Katelynn Golden; his great grandchild Samuel Keithley; and many nieces and nephews.
The Keithley and Golden families would like to extend their sincere and heartfelt thanks to Moy Horn with Senior Sitters of Austin and New Century Hospice for their dedication in caring for Jim.
A visitation will be held at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd. in Austin on August 26th, 2019; 5PM to 7PM. The service will be at the aforementioned Funeral Home on August 27th, 2019; 10AM. The burial will immediately follow the service at Austin Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice.
