James was born November 28, 1942, in Austin, Texas, to parents Tony and Sarah Short, the youngest son of eight children. He lived a full life, lived his dreams, and touched the lives of many people. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, and resided in various locations, but always returned to Austin. He was very proud to be a Veteran of the US Army, and kept in close contact with former classmates from Austin High and Eanes Elementary. He was very interested in family history and enjoyed discovering family members.
James is survived by three sisters, Evelyn Proctor of Austin, Texas, May Short of Columbia, Maryland, and Mary Carcy of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; his beloved Pomeranian, Misty; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Sarah Short, siblings, Mamie Short, Susie Short, Malcolm "Sonny" Short, and Tony Short Jr.
A Celebration of James's life will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
