After graduating from High School James continued his education, receiving his Bachelor's degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. He was a US veteran, serving our country in the US Airforce. James retired as a Parole Supervisor in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Parole Division.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer. James was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Esther M. Chavis; son, James C. Chavis, II and wife Regina; grandchildren, Jacqueline Y. Chavis and James C. Chavis, III; and sister, Vera Ersell Parham.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Weed-Corley-Fish South Congress, 2620 South Congress Blvd.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 10, 2011, at Central Texas State Veteran's Cemetery, 11463 State Hwy. 195, Killeen, Texas 76542.
