James Robert Aubrey died peacefully on March 18, 2023 in San Marcos TX. He was born in Temple TX, the son of Mary Belle McWhirter Aubrey and Victor Kingsley Aubrey. He was preceded in death by his parents and three older brothers, Victor Kingsley Aubrey, John Aubrey, and Charles Edward Aubrey.
Jim spent his childhood in small towns in Texas while his father served as minister of various Presbyterian churches. Always tagging along with his older brothers, Jim loved to build elaborate forts that served as stages, libraries, and diners. Their devoted mother, Mary Belle, taught them to read at an early age. Library books were everywhere in the Aubrey home, along with the pages of the current play they had written.
Attending Trinity University when it was still in Waxahachie, Jim majored in biochemistry. He went on to graduate school at the University of California Berkeley. Halfway through his first year at Berkeley, he was diagnosed with mental illness. He struggled for much of his life from the debilitating effects of mental illness and medication in a time before impactful treatment was available.
Happily, he found peace and safety at the San Marcos Rehabilitation and Health Care nursing home for the last twenty years of his life. May Jim rest in peace united with his beloved family.
