Jack Clint Eisenberg

Jack was born on December 9, 1927, to Alfred Walter Granville Eisenberg and Zona Rankin Eisenberg in Amarillo, Texas. Jack graduated from Amarillo High School and from The University of Texas at Austin, where he also attended graduate school prior to serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He returned to UT and received his law degree from The University of Texas Law School in 1957.

After working for the Insurance Receiver of the State of Texas for one year and as an Assistant District Attorney for Travis County for six months Jack joined his good friends Tony Byrd and Tom Davis to form Byrd, Davis, Eisenberg, where he practiced consumer protection and personal injury law until his retirement in 1997.

Jack's passion for the law and the justice system began when he entered law school and never dimmed during his 40-year legal career. He served his profession with distinction in many capacities. Jack was President of the Travis County Bar Association in 1978-79, and during that tenure initiated the Bar Luncheon during Law Week. At that luncheon each year his colleagues are honored for outstanding leadership. Jack was chosen for the TCBA Distinguished Lawyer Award in 2002.

Jack served the State Bar of Texas as a member of the Board of Directors from 1979 to 1982, as a member of the grievance Committee for District 9 from 1967-1979, chairing that committee for ten of those years, and he served on the Resolutions and the Disciplinary Review Committees. Jack was elected President of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association in 1970, having served on its board from 1963 to 1969. He was a sustaining life fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas.

Jack was a founding member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Westlake and was later a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd for many years.

Jack loved hunting, especially his yearly October pheasant hunt on farmland he and Tom Davis owned in South Dakota and deer hunting on his ranch near Killeen. He was a gourmet cook and appreciated fine wine, and he took special delight in hosting friends in his home in Austin, where he matched his kitchen art perfectly with wines from his cellar. He enjoyed serving on the wine committee at the Headliner's Club for many years. Jack loved his family with a passion, he cherished his friends, and he was a friend to many people.

Jack married Betty Jane Jacobs in March of 1974, and she brought to their marriage her three children, Carol Lee, Jay, and Tom. After the death of BJ in 1985, he married Sharon Prentice Elledge in March of 1987. Besides Betty Jane, Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, and his sister.

Jack is survived by his wife, Sharon Prentice Eisenberg, his daughter, Carol Lee Mann and her husband, Scott of Beaumont, his sons, Jay Jacobs of Austin, Tom Eisenberg and his wife, Sara of Iowa City, Iowa, and by Sharon's daughters, Kathy Elledge Boccieri and her husband, Michael of Austin, Deborah Elledge Brown and her husband, Dale of Atkinson, New Hampshire, and Amy Elledge Carrier and her husband, Larry of Santa Rosa, California. He is survived by 23 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Other survivors include brother-in-law, James Archer Prentice and his wife, Linda, sister-in-law, Linda Prentice Dill, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to offer its deepest gratitude to the staff at Westminster Health Care Center who took care of Jack, and also to Dr. Mike Pelligrini for his care the last 5 years. And thanks also to all the wonderful friends who called and visited Jack - you have been a blessing to both Jack and Sharon.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 3201 Windsor Rd. Private interment will follow in Richland Springs Cemetery.
