Jack Campbell Beardsley passed away peacefully at home on December 26, 2004 after spending the day with his family and close friends. He was born to Hugh and Erma Beardsley on December 21, 1928, St. Margarets Hospital in Hammond, Indiana. His hobbies growing up were Boy Scouts and music. Jack graduated from Hammond High School on June 13, 1947. He attended Purdue University Extension for one year studying accounting. Jack, a drummer, formed a jazz band playing in the Hammond and Chicago areas from 1948 to 1950. One of his fondest memories was sitting in on a jam session with Stan Kenton in Chicago. He remained an avid Stan Kenton fan. He was drafted into the Army on February 19, 1951. After basic training, he served in Salzburg, Austria in the Headquarters Company. He was honorably discharged on February 14, 1953. Jack worked part-time in movie theatres from 1950 to 1955, developing a life-long love of movies as well as music. Jack and his family moved to Austin in 1967 while he was employed by General Electric. After retirement from GE, he worked in convenience stores until he retired the second time. Surviving Jack are his wife of 40 years, Norma; a son, James and his wife Sheryl and their daughter Elizabeth; a daughter, Cheryl Bryant and her husband Dean and their daughter Michelle; a sister, Gertrude Rainbolt and five nieces, a nephew and their extended families. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Sunrise Community Church, 4430 Manchaca Rd, Austin, TX 78745 where Jack was an active member. The family will greet friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 30th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, with a memorial service following at 2:00 p.m., Pastor Tom Dykman officiating.
