Iva Edna Toombs entered into eternal rest on April 25, 2016, at the age of 94. Iva Adams was born at home on July 31, 1921, to Minnie Pearl (Collins) and James Jefferson Adams; she was the youngest of six children. She attended school in Salado and graduated from Salado High School in May of 1939.
Iva Adams was married in Seattle, Washington on August 4, 1941, to Oliver A. Toombs. To this union two children were born: MJ McLean on December 15, 1947, and David Scott on September 12, 1953. She was preceded in death by Oliver on November 18, 1981, and by David on February 18, 2007.
Iva Toombs was a member of the First Baptist Church of Austin and the Hyde Park Reading Club. Her many interests included gardening; needlework; games, especially scrabble; crossword puzzles; word jumbles; reading; and traveling. She loved to feed pineapple upside down cake to her family. She had worked at the Internal Revenue Service, early voting, and elections days.
Survivors include her daughter, MJ McLean and husband Steven of Austin, Texas; Grandchildren, Sarah McLean and husband John Cowher of Austin; Victoria Wilkerson and her husband Ray of Frisco, Texas, and Scott Toombs of Houston; great-grandchildren Channing, Evan and Ellis Hay of Austin, Noah Cowher of Austin; and Christopher and Ashleigh Wilkerson of Frisco, Texas. She is also survived by her granddog and special friend Veronica.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday, April 29, 2016, at 10:00 A.M., at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park, with Dr. Richard Spencer officiating.
The family requests that no flowers be sent. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, The Society of St. Vincent de Paul or a charity of your choice.
