Hugh Perry Hagood, 89, went to join our heavenly Father on December 24, 2020, while sleeping and dreaming of angels for which he waited for daily. Hugh has lived for the previous five years among many friends at different assisted living homes across Austin and Leander. He will be truly missed. A man of kindness and patience to all he met. He was born on November 19, 1931 in Snyder, Texas to Buford Silas and Eula May (Atkinson) Hagood.
He joined the Air Force in the late 40's and began an adventure that lasted until the late 60's. Over his career in the military he received countless commendations including but not limited to: The Army Commendation Medal, The Air Force Commendation Medal, the Bronze Service Star, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Japan Occupation Medal, etc. He was a true American Hero. Upon completion of his military service, Hugh retired in Austin, Texas. He went back to school and attained a college degree in Criminal Justice from St. Edwards University. Hugh worked for the Austin Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, State Purchasing and General Services Commission and World Savings and Loan company. After his final retirement in the late nineties, Hugh and Yvonne made many trips to Switzerland, France and Italy to visit family and friends. Travel was truly Hugh's passion. You could always find him at an outside corner cafe having an espresso or even maybe a glass of wine depending on the time of day while the ladies were shopping.
During his time in the military he met the love and joy of his life, Yvonne Edith Nesti in Rabat, Morocco among a grove of olive trees. It was love at first sight. They were married for more than 66 years. Hugh and Yvonne had two sons, the late Gregory Hugh Hagood and Gary Steve Hagood. Their family travelled the globe for many years with the military. Living in California, Mississippi, Massachusetts, England, France, Germany, Italy, Morocco, etc.
Hugh is survived by his wife, Yvonne Edith Hagood; and only living son, Gary Hagood and his wife Judy; and their son Anthony, and his children Anthony and Alexandria; and their daughter Theresa Hagood and her son Jaden Choate. Hugh was predeceased by his son Gregory Hagood. He is survived by Gregory’s two children; Jonathan Hagood and wife Jeanna, and their children Avery and Olivia; and Stacy (Hagood) Caffey and her husband Kyle Caffey, their children Addalie and Weston; sister Virginia (Hagood) Cook and her husband Jack; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his son Gregory, Hugh was predeceased by his sisters, Christine Hagood Hancock, Sue Hagood Leither, and brother George Hagood.
Due to Covid-19, we will be having a celebration of life at a future date.
