Howard Chance, 84, passed away on February 28, 2008. He was born February 17, 1924, in Poughkeepsie, New York. He is predeceased by his parents, John and Anna Chance, and brother, Jack. He married Miriam DeCormier on May 28, 1944. He is survived by his wife, Miriam, daughter Linda Crowner and husband John, son Robert and wife Marie, son Eric and wife Jerili, grandchildren Kristina, Michael and Andrew Chance, nephew Randy Chance and an extended family. Howard served his country as an aviation gunnery instructor in the Navy during WWII. He served his community in the Jaycees in Poughkeepsie, the Boy Scouts in Lexington, Kentucky and the Foster Grandparents in Austin. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Lexington. Howard worked for IBM for 42 years in Poughkeepsie, Lexington and Austin. He worked in personnel programs for 27 years and helped open IBM plants in Lexington (1957) and Austin (1967). After his retirement in 1984, he continued as a consultant in the IBM Employee Assistance Program for 10 years. He took up golf in retirement and loved to play the game with his buddies. He was a UT sports fan and enjoyed going to the basketball games in Austin. He was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 4 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar, Austin, TX.
