Howard Michael Brooks, 75, passed away on April 6, 2025, in Austin, Texas. Born on June 24, 1949, in St. Louis, Missouri, Howard led a life marked by dedication to his family, service, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
Howard earned a business degree from Quincy College, where he also played collegiate soccer—an early testament to his discipline and team spirit. Following his education, he embarked on a distinguished career as a criminal investigator with the federal government. His work reflected his unwavering commitment to justice and integrity.
Howard shared a loving marriage of 52 years with Jacqueline Brooks. Together they built a close-knit family that brought him immense pride and joy. He is remembered with love by his children: Kim Rivera and her husband Angel; Kevin Brooks and his wife Honeyleth; and Colleen Hord and her husband Ryan. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Gabriela and Bethany Rivera; Hunter Brooks; and Brynlee, Ryan II, and Rhett Hord.
He is also fondly remembered by his sisters Diane Leslie and her husband John; Annette Gottschall and her husband Walter; and sister-in-law Ruth Brooks. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rita Brooks, as well as his brother Kenneth Brooks.
Outside of work and family life, Howard found great joy in woodworking—a craft that allowed him to create lasting pieces with care and precision. He was an avid fly fisherman who found peace in nature’s quiet rhythms, often combining this passion with camping trips that became treasured memories for those who joined him.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Funeral Home, located at 6300 West William Cannon Drive in Austin, Texas. A service will follow at the same location from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
