Herlinda R. Ruiz

The beautiful and beloved Herlinda ‘Linda’ Ruiz of Austin, TX, has gained her wings at the age of 84 on Saturday Oct. 29, 2022. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 66 years Pedro ‘Pete’ Ruiz.

The two had a marriage of fairy tales and beat all odds and proved to the world true love exists. They have 4 children: Esmeralda Morris, Arthur Ruiz, Lavinia Ruiz-Cano (Joe), Sam Davila and the following siblings Frank, Inez, Antonio ‘Tony’ (Kathy) and Josie Castellanos (John).

She has joined her parents Bonifacio & Maria Ruiz in heaven along with three of her siblings Manuel, Candelario and Angelita.

The love between a grandma and her grandbabies are one none can break. Linda was blessed with an enormous amount of love by her grandchildren: Audra Cortez (Jon), Jacob Ruiz, Ricardo Morris, Jesse Morris, Esteban Morris, Andrea Beightol (Kaleb), Benjamin Ligues, Vincent Guerra, Lorenzo Davila (Crystal), Arthur Davila (Alicia), Janelle Cano, Eva Cano, and Adrian ‘Guero’ Medel.

When she thought her heart couldn’t grow any bigger, she was blessed even more to be a great-grandma, or as she liked to be called Gigi, to Landon, Emmalynn, Brandon, Sonia, Cataleya, Letty, RJ, Zeke, Greyson, Nehemiah, Luna, Sal, Jadicee, Lorenzo, Ethynn, Eli, Arthur Jr, Alex, and Aidan.

Linda was loved beyond measures by her numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and all those who she crossed paths with. She was kind and loving to strangers and left a lasting impression without any effort. She was the definition of beauty and the strength of a warrior. Her life lessons were valuable and unforgettable.

The family wants to thank Compassus (Hospice) for their caring and generosity at the end of our mom’s life. Her nurse Janel Lemons was very kind, compassionate and her devotion to her patients shows true noble selflessness.

In lieu of flowers mom wished for contributions to be made to the following: The American Heart Association & The Alzheimer’s Association.

A visitation for Linda will be held Thursday, November 10, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78752 with a rosary service following from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM. A funeral mass will occur Friday, November 11, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1206 E 9th St, Austin, Texas 78702 with an entombment following at 12:30 PM at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 S Interstate 35 Frontage Rd, Austin, Texas 78704.
