Helen Louise (Hartman) Rose was born April 7, 1932 to Albert and Nannie (Schuessler) Hartman in Llano, Texas. She was baptized September 8, 1932 at St. James Lutheran Church in Llano, Texas, confirmed on July 13, 1947 at St. James in Llano. She attended the Llano schools and graduated From Llano high school in 1949. She attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, Texas. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education and history in 1953.
She married Melvin Rose July 20, 1957 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Killeen, Texas. She taught Social Studies in junior high school for 30 years in Runge, Crane, Killeen, and Austin, Texas. In Austin, she taught Fulmore, Pearce, Dobie, and O. Henry. Most of those years were spent teaching Texas history which she dearly loved. She also taught for 5 1/2 years in the preschool at Faith Lutheran Church in Austin.
She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church since 1966 where she taught Sunday school, served at various times as Sunday school superintendent and vacation bible school director. She was the treasurer of the church WELCA organization. She was active in the women’s organization serving as treasurer, secretary, and as chairperson of her Circle. She also served on the Parish education and stewardship committees. She served as church council secretary for 3 terms.
She was a huge basketball fan and spent years following the Spurs.
For 32 years she shared many memories with her grandchildren. She was our “Mema”. She loved to spend as much time with her family on special holidays and birthdays, any reason to make her famous pies and sweet treats.
Her patience and soft spoken nature will be missed. May she Rest in Peace in God’s presence.

One brother: Charles Hartman of Llano, Texas (deceased)
Nephews: Roland Greer, Todd Linder, Richard Birk, Les Hartman, Curtis Hartman
Niece: Terry Blevins-Daniels
A visitation for Helen will be held Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church, 6600 Woodrow Ave., Austin, Texas 78757 with a funeral service following at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will be at 12:30 PM at Cook-Walden/ Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 North IH-35 Frontage Road, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
