Helen Ruth Harris

Helen Ruth Harris passed away on October 10, 2016. She joins her mother Johnnie Belle Payne, father Aaron Elmer Payne, husband Kenneth Jackson Harris, and grandson Keith Michael Harris with the Lord in Heaven.

Helen was born in Burkburnett, Texas on October 20, 1921. Graduated John H. Reagan High School, Houston Texas, June 3, 1939, after which she briefly attended Texas Women’s University, Denton, Texas. She later worked for more than 10 years in the Installment Loan department at Reagan State Bank, Houston, Texas. Helen was a long-time member of Oaks Christian Church in Houston and Shepherd of the Hills Christian Church in Austin. She was a devoted Christian and read her bible regularly. She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and wife. She loved to cook gourmet meals and was a fantastic seamstress. She was an avid bird watcher who loved collecting anything to do with birds. Birds-chirping was one of her favorite sounds. She was a spunky, sassy and no nonsense lady who always looked well put together before leaving the house. She was the epitome of sophistication and grace.

She is survived by her loving family: sons, Ken Harris and Don Harris of Austin; daughter in-law, Alice Harris of Austin; granddaughters, Lisa Harris and Maegen Mackenzie, of Austin; grandson, Mark Harris of Austin; great grandsons, Mason and Ethan Lane of Austin as well as numerous nieces and nephews throughout Texas.

The family would like to express special appreciation to Robin Hyde, Miki Carroll and Lacey Shaffer for their years of loving assistance with Helen’s care. They also wish to thank Park Manor Bee Cave as well as Legacy Hospice for helping to make Helen’s passing a comfortable and loving transition.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family will receive visitors from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M., on Monday, October 17, 2016, with the Funeral Service to be held at 10:00 A.M., at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
