Harvey was a 5th generation Texan. His great-great grandfather, William Dunn, moved his family to Texas in 1845 and was the 2nd Sheriff of Guadalupe County. Harvey graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1943 and received his BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1948.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Betty Joe Witt, whom he married on April 19, 1952, in the First Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his son, George Harvey Dunn III and wife, Sandra Hengst Dunn of Loveland, Colorado; daughter, Sally Eugenia Dunn McGuffey, and husband Thomas McGuffey of Austin; brother, Captain Jerome Richard Dunn, USN (Ret.) and his wife, Barbara of Pinehurst, North Carolina; and 7 grandchildren (Amanda Michelle Dunn, Megan Elizabeth (Dunn) Kent and husband, Stephen, William Harvey Dunn and wife, Lauren (Loescher), Kaitlin Kelly Dunn, Kyle Stephen McGuffey, Joshua Mark Dunn and Ann Elise McGuffey). He was predeceased by his brother Brig. General William Walton Dunn, USAF (Ret.).
Harvey was a life-long Presbyterian, serving on the Board of Deacons for the First Presbyterian Church of Corpus Christi and the First Presbyterian Church of Odessa, Texas. While living in Houston, Harvey was a member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. He was an ordained Elder and served two terms on the Session of the First Presbyterian Church in Conroe. He helped organize San Gabriel Presbyterian Church in Georgetown and was involved in acquiring land for the church on Williams Drive. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church in Austin.
Harvey began his career with Stanolind Oil and Gas Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He joined Goliad Corporation in 1953 and joined Rexall Drug and Chemical Company (later Dart Industries) in 1961. He was the Project Manager responsible for the design and construction of Rexall’s first Polypropylene Plant, the technology of which was later licensed worldwide. While with Dart, he became Director of Projects, Engineering and Construction Division. In 1976, he joined Bechtel Corporation and in 1981 joined S&B Engineers and Constructors, retiring as Vice President in 1996. He held patents for polymer processing and was a Registered Professional Engineer in Texas and Louisiana.
He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and the American Chemical Society. He was active in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, serving as Chairman of their Permian Basin section.
Harvey enjoyed golfing and boating at April Sound Country Club on Lake Conroe where he and Betty had a second home for 20 years. In 1998, they moved to Sun City Georgetown where he was active in the SCT Community Association serving on the Covenants Committee and as a Neighborhood Representative.
He and Betty enjoyed each other’s love, whether dancing, traveling, or golfing, playing bridge and visiting with family and friends. He will be greatly missed. Harvey will be interred in the lot of his great grandfather in the oldest part of the Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from two o’clock until four o’clock in the afternoon, on Tuesday, the 3rd of April 2012, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
Funeral services will be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 4th of April 2012, at Westlake Presbyterian Church, 7127 Bee Caves Road, Austin, Texas with Rev. Dr. Peter B. Barnes officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, Texas.
In lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, the family suggests memorials be made to Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church Austin, First Presbyterian Church Georgetown or San Gabriel Presbyterian Church Georgetown.
