Harry was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 30, 1924. He is preceded in death by his parents Harry and Lola Leake Gordon; his wife of nearly 60 years Dorothy Coomer Gordon of Springfield, Illinois; and grandson Tommy Papke. He and Dorothy lived in various cities in Illinois until eventually settling in Baytown, Texas in 1960. They were retired for 30 years and enjoyed touring the country in their camper. Most recently he lived at the Pavilion at Great Hills in Austin.
Harry is survived by his son Terry Gordon and wife Patty, their children Scott Gordon and wife Alison, and Christy Nixon and husband John, all of Austin; son Jerry Gordon and wife Linda of Austin, their children Jeff Gordon and wife Kelly of Dallas, Melanie Gordon of Dallas, and Julie Gordon of Nice, France; daughter Carol Papke and husband Danny of Willis, their daughter Tami Papke of Houston, and daughter Theresa Schlichter and husband Eric of The Woodlands. He was very proud of his nine great-grand children, Lindsay, Audrey and Madeline Nixon; Avery, Daniel and Stephen Schlichter; Jack and Molly Gordon; and Finley Gordon.
He will be remembered for his woodworking hobby making many bird houses and toys for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Harry served in the Navy in WWII as a First Class Motor Machinist in the Pacific Theatre. He participated in many of the major battles in the Pacific.
Visitation will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX 78705 at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2013 followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, TX 78731.
