Harriet (Demarais) Pfeiffer passed away on June 23rd, 2022 in Austin, Texas. She was born on February 14th, 1923 in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota and grew up on her parent’s farm there. She received a scholarship to St. Catherine’s University where she earned degrees in chemistry and physics. Harriet met and married Fred Pfeiffer and taught math in Minnesota and Michigan before settling in Stevens Point, Wisconsin where she taught geometry at P.J. Jacobs High School for many years. She had many fond memories of her students, including having her sons Allen and Steve in her class. Harriet loved music, golf, playing bridge, doing daily crossword puzzles, being on her computer, gardening, nature and time with family. She is survived by her sister Laverne Ritchie, her three sons Allen (Karla) Pfeiffer, Steven (Sherry) Pfeiffer and Martin (Virginia) Pfeiffer, her grandchildren Tamara (Will) Slade, Brian (Rachel) Pfeiffer, Sara (Michael) Tzaperas, Steven (Michelle) Pfeiffer, Brandon Pfeiffer, Andy Pfeiffer and Alissa (Nick Meyer) Pfeiffer, great-grandchildren Lydia Pfeiffer, Gideon Pfeiffer, Samson Pfeiffer, Hattie Tzaperas, Jordan Tzaperas, and Allie Pfeiffer. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Marie Demarais, her brother Duane Demarais, her loving husband Fred Pfeiffer, and her grandson David Pfeiffer. She was married to Fred for over 60 years and prior to his death in 2012 they were virtually inseparable.
For many years Harriet and Fred played winter golf in New Braunfels, Texas. They were also members of the Stevens Point Country Club where she hit a hole-in-one at age seventy five and got a trophy! They frequented The Skyclub and Pete’s Silver Coach restaurants where they enjoyed many an evening out. Harriet was a particularly sharp bridge player and played well into her 90’s. She loved playing card games with her children and grandchildren which was a source of great family fun. She played piano her whole life, and in Austin she became a fan of outdoor live music, especially jazz and the big band sound. Harriet loved life. She was always grateful and an optimist who could see beauty everywhere. She smiled all the time, and she shared her joy with everyone she met. A private family celebration will be held at a future time.
