Harold (Hal) Franklin Simon III, 49, finally succumbed to his disease of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and went to be with his Lord and Savior early Friday morning May 4th. He passed away at his home in Cedar Park, TX surrounded by his family and loved ones. Hal was born April 27, 1963.
He was preceded in death by his father Harold Franklin Simon Jr., along with his sister Jannie Sue Simon Smith, and his brother David Wayne Dominey. Hal is survived by his mother, Mrs. Naomi Tatom Simon Motsinger of Pine Bluff, and daughters Tiffany and Jenna Simon.
Hal grew up in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and graduated from Watson Chapel High School in 1981. He was employed with Varco Pruden Buildings for over 25 years. In 1994, the company promoted Hal to District Sales Manager of the South Texas Region, and him and his family moved to Cedar Park, TX, a suburb of Austin, TX where they have happily resided since.
Hal loved sports, and especially loved to play golf. He also enjoyed entertaining his friends and family. He could often be found grilling while wearing his goofy Hawaiian shirts with a Miller Lite in his hand.
In April of 2011, Hal received his devastating diagnosis of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, after noticing shaking in his left hand. The swift progression of his disease, though tragic, was a blessing in that he did not have to suffer long. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the ALS association in honor of Hal’s memory.
