Guillermo (Bill) Manuel Pena, of Austin, Texas died on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at age 53. He was born on January 7, 1954 in McAllen, Texas. He has been an Austin resident since 1978. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio in 1972. He received an ROTC scholarship and attended Trinity University in San Antonio, graduating with honors in 1976. He served in the U. S. Army where he achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant, and was honorably discharged in May 1982 from reserve duty. His career spanned over 30 years in the computer industry, specializing in the fields of data management and software development. His job history includes 13 years at Dell Computer Corporation and various other local companies, the most recent with Sentari Technologies. He was also the president of his own company, Challenger Software Services. Bill was involved as a youth and as an adult volunteer in Boy Scouts of America in Austin and San Antonio. He achieved Eagle Scout rank in 1971. He also proudly assisted several young men to become Eagle Scouts, including his two sons. He was also very proud that his daughters achieved the Girl Scout Bronze and Silver Awards. Bill was a devoted husband and father, a member of the University Catholic Center of Austin, an avid San Antonio Spurs and Boston Celtics fan, and a committed community volunteer. Bill is preceded in death by his parents Willie H. and Julia Pena and his wife's parents, Carlos and Johnnie Alvarez. Bill is survived by his wife of 29 years, Guadalupe Wanda Pena, sons Nicolas and Mark Pena and wife Natasha and daughter Mikayla; daughters Sara and Julia; sisters Theresa (Tere) and Judi Pena of San Antonio, Anna Maria Villanueva of Dallas, Lucy Blevins and her husband Michael Blevins of San Antonio; brothers Frank Pena and wife Yvonne of San Antonio, and John Pena and wife Nannette of Springfield, Oregon; and numerous relatives and friends who will miss him very much. Visitation will be on Saturday, November 10 from 6 to 8PM - the rosary will be recited at 7PM at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, Austin. Funeral mass will be at the University Catholic Center, 2010 University Avenue, Austin, on Sunday, November 11 at 2PM. Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
