I’m so saddened to hear of the loss of Greg. He was an older Phi Delt alumnus brother at TCU. I only met him, once or twice, during school, since he had graduated. But, we met for dinner, a few years, ago, in Dallas. I’m an advisor for our fraternity at UTD, and had asked him for input. He was a wealth of knowledge and just a nice guy.

My deepest sympathy to Speaker Barnes and his wife in the loss of Greg. I grew up with Greg and Amy when their Father was the Speaker of the House of Representatives.  Greg was a very kindhearted individual and I had the opportunity to see him a number of times after.  My prayers are with his family. We would ride our bikes in the House, when we would stay at the Capital apartment.  What fun days those were in 1965 -68.

My deepest sympathy to Speaker Barnes and his wife in the loss of Greg.  Many many years have passed since Speaker Barnes took a chance and put me on board as a  speechwriter having just graduated from Missouri’s School of Journalism and moved  to Austin with a two-year old and as a single mother.  This began my journalistic career.

I remember Greg and Amy as small children  at play in the Capitol as two delightful youngsters.

Greg was always smiling and excited about some new opportunity. His enthusiasm was contagious and I will forever remember him as happy and confident about what was about to happen.

Greg was a longtime friend and I am so sad that we have lost him... but I know it is to a better place.  I send condolences and love to his family and wish I could do more at this very sad time.

Greg was a good friend and cheerful supporter of the McKay and Parker family. He showed lots of interest in my two sisters and I and was always encouraging us to do big things with our future whether in the business world or answering Gods commission. I will remember the lunch I had with him last winter and his encouragement and words of advice. I hope to apply them to my life in honor of him.

Greg was my neighbor and parked beside me in our garage. He alway greeted me with a warm hello and smile.

I met Greg in seventh grade. I enjoyed his sense of humor. After I was diagnosed with ALS , he reached out to me several times to support me. I was grateful for his friendship. God bless.

My heart broke hearing the sudden passing of Greg. Greg Barnes was a true Texas gentleman. I was introduced to Greg when I first moved to Dallas. We met for breakfast at Luckys Cafe in Dallas with a mutual friend. I was immediately drawn to his Christian values, and his compassion for family and friends. My heart broke when I learned of his passing.  We were to have lunch three days later. A reminder to all that time is the one commodity we can't retrieve. My thoughts and prayers go out to his Father, immediate family and the many, many lives he touched throughout great state of Texas. RIP Greg. I will miss your dry sense of humor and Texas charm. Though short, I cherished our friendship. 🙏🙏🙏

Sherri and I send our love and condolences to Greg’s family.  We have many fond memories accumulated over a 42 year friendship with Greg.  I always looked forward to “catching up” and Greg re-telling stories of our times in Houston during the early 1980s.  We both were so young.  One of Greg’s favorite stories was about a multi-day trip from Houston to Austin of us driving the new Mustang belonging to his dad and Governor Connally.  What a trip it was!  Rest in peace, Greg, until we meet again.

I’ll miss Greg and our chats together and the memories of Great times we all had vacationing with our family’s together in Beaver Creek and other places.   It seems in the past year or so Greg had grown in his relationship with Jesus and he would frequently call me and talk about his growing relationship and what it was meaning to him

I will forever remember my old friend Greg and  know the Lord hss a special place for him in Heaven

I saved one of the prayers he texted me once. From Greg's own words, I offer this prayer back to him:

"Rest assured, we serve the Lord and the King of Kings who owns the cattle of a thousand hills several quadrillion dollars plus. Lord, would you bless my brother Greg on this day and send 20 ministering angels to him in Heaven to surround him with Peace and Joy, in Jesus’ name this day!"

Rest peacefully, Greg. You and your devotion to God will be dearly missed.
