Gordon Willard Houser

Gordon was born and raised in Austin. He attended Austin High School and received his bachelor's and Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree from the University of Texas. He then practiced law in Houston, Dallas, and Austin.

During his high school years, he enjoyed playing in the Austin High School band where he was selected as Drum Major. He played saxophone as well as the piano and loved all styles of music. In his final hours he was comforted by the sounds of Chopin as well as John Denver. He always looked forward to his annual visits to the Round Top International Music Festival.

While at the University of Texas, he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and a member of the Longhorn Singers. He was also a member of the Bachelors Club of Austin. Gordon served in a US Army JAG unit for a brief time during the Viet Nam era.

Gordon was an avid Longhorn fan and enjoyed attending UT football, basketball, and baseball games. As a Texas Rangers fan, he attended a 2010 World Series game in Arlington along with his son and daughter.

He loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Europe, Alaska, and Mexico. For a number of years, he and his wife, Debbie made annual visits to Cloudcroft, New Mexico and Rockport, Texas.

Gordon and his family lived in Rollingwood for 18 years. During this time, he was a coach for Western Hills Little League and Western Athletic Youth Association basketball. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America as an Assistant Scout Master.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, C. Willard, and Marie Houser, as well as his beloved uncle Curtis Houser and his wife, Helen, all of Austin, TX.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Debbie Houser, son, Neal Houser, daughter, Jane Hatter and her husband, Scott, and grandsons, Kai, and Finn Hatter. Gordon is survived by his cousins, Barry Wukasch, Don Wukasch, Tom Teykl, Rene Taylor, Rick Houser, and Jim Houser. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Lee Butler, and brother in-law, Andrew Butler.

Gordon's family would like to thank Diane Langness, his caregiver, for her devotion and care during the last three years. We also would like thank his wonderful nurses, Marty and Lori with Ascera Care Hospice as well as the caregiving staff at Pecan Ridge Memory Care. A big thank you to family friends, Sandy Dreessen and Robert Rangel. Their support, compassion and friendship made the last few years a little easier and meaningful for Gordon.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 18th from 6-8 P.M. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home (3125 North Lamar Blvd). A Memorial Service will be held Thursday April 19th at 2 P.M at St. Michael's Episcopal Church (1500 N. Capital of Texas Hwy, 78746).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the University of Texas Longhorn Foundation.
