Gladys Josephine Warner, 89, of Austin, Texas passed away Friday September 28, 2012 in Austin. She was born January 20, 1923 in Austin, Texas to Selma Theresa Helgren and Fred Herman Burkland. She was a lifelong Austinite.
As kids, Gladys and her sister, Annabelle, rode the streetcars from Manor road to the lake, reversing the seats at the end of the line for a free ride.
After graduating from Austin High School, Gladys worked at the National Youth Agency. She later met Harold Warner and work for a number of years at Scarborough Clothing on 6th and Congress Ave. She married Harold Arthur Warner in Little Rock, Arkansas, on July 14, 1943 while Harold was in the US Army prior to his deployment to Germany.
After the passing of her husband in 1981, Gladys learned to drive and worked at Beall’s department store in Capital Plaza for 15 years. She enjoyed working in her yard and taking care of her family.
Gladys had been a member of Faith Lutheran Church, where her children were baptized, Messiah Lutheran Church, and, most recently, Hope Lutheran Church where she was an active member of Dorcas Women's Circle as long as her health allowed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Arthur Warner, a son, David Arthur Warner, and her brother, Fred Homer Burkland.
She is survived by her son, Rodney Harold Warner, and his wife, Debra; her sister-in-law, Esther Warner; sister, Erna Annabelle Turner and her husband, Robert; grandchildren, Deena Rene Dail and her husband, Robert;
great-grandchildren, Rhiannon Warner-Dail & Linnea Warner-Dail.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until half past seven o’clock in the evening, on Thursday, the 4th of October 2012, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
A funeral service will be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 5th of October 2012, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, Texas.
A reception will be held following the services at Hope Lutheran Church, 6414 North Hampton Austin, Texas.
Active pallbearers will be Wes Turner, Donald Turner, Paul Warner, Rodney Warner, Robert Dail, Brian Noack.
