Gilbert H. Ruiz, (aka Boss Man, Teco, Big Gil) was born on February 4, 1927 a native of Austin, TX. He passed away August 21, 2017. Gilbert was born to Aristeo and Enriqueta Ruiz of East Austin, he was a true Austinite.
He was preceded in death by his parent's father, Aristeo Ruiz; mother, Enriqueta Ruiz; children, Dianna (DeeDee) Walker, Suzanne Ruiz; siblings, Elvira R. Sanchez, Pedro H. Ruiz, Victor H. Ruiz, Bacilio H. Ruiz, Domingo H. Ruiz, and Aristeo H. Ruiz.
Gilbert is survived by his wife of 36 years, Maria (Lucy, Lucha) Fuentes Ruiz; children, sons, Gilbert Ruiz, III (Olga), Ryan Ruiz, daughter, Ruby Molina (Joey) and sons, Gilbert Ruiz, Jr. (Sylvia), Juan Ruiz, Sr. (Lori) and daughter, Maria Hernandez; Siblings: Otilia R.Pesker, Olivia R. Morales, Paula R. Klier, Luis H. Ruiz; and grandchildren, Evan, Elaine, Lilia (Lily), Tina, William, Elena, Trisha, Juan, Jenny, Danielle, Jim (Skeeter), Sherry, Shelly, Julie, Kelly, Larry; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Gilbert was born in Austin, and moved to Port Huron, Michigan, at the age of sixteen. He retired in 1980 from the Automobile Inspection Refinery, before returning to Austin. Gilbert was a business owner of several neighborhood bars in the Austin area that include Gilberto's, Prieto's Waterfall and Roberto's, as well as Lucy's Mexican Restaurant. He was his happiest watching his sons play baseball and was their biggest fans on and off the field. His greatest past times were sitting in his favorite chair, watching baseball, football and softball. His favorite sports teams were the Texas Rangers, UT Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed reading from his gallery of WWII books that were given to him by his older brother Victor.

Celebration of Life for Gilbert H. Ruiz will be at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX. Visitation will be Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm with Rosary following at 7:00 p.m. Final goodbyes will be at 9:00 am on Monday, August 28, 2017 at the Funeral Home, with Mass following at 10:00 am at San Jose Catholic Church and Entombment will follow at Assumption Mausoleum Cemetery.
