George F. Strickland Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 23, 2020. He was born in San Angelo on July 24, 1930 & had many fond memories of this Hometown. Born to George Franklin Sr. and Minnie Harvey Strickland, he was the youngest of 4 siblings, Coreen, Covey & Lamar. Later they moved to his adopted city of Austin where he graduated from Austin High school in 1949 & was an usher at the Paramount Theater in Austin. He joined the Army in 1952 & was sent to North Korea as part of the 44th Army Division of a M.A.S.H. unit on the front lines as an X-Ray Technician.
After being Honorably Discharged on 1954, George had several business ventures that took him to various cities & states. One was working with his Brothers and Father at Strickland Egg Co. in Houston & was a Sales Representative for Remington Rand. He settled in Austin in his later years where he worked with various insurance agencies & spent many happy times with friends and his companion pets, Maggie & Foxie.
George was a confirmed Bachelor & loved his independence. He leaves behind nieces, Judy Rogers, Vickie Riley, Rebecca Strickland, Cindy & Keith Gore & Sherry Dean. Also, many great friends at the Mesa Village Condos who were so kind & supportive to him, especially Linda & Susan. He will be missed by his devoted friends Rosie, Robert & Jae.
A celebration of life will be spent with close friends & relatives with his ashes going to the Remembrance Gardens in Austin and a Memorial will be held at Mesa Village at a future date. He was preceded in death by his Parents & Siblings & Best Friend Bruce Ethridge.
