George A. Lewis II George Anthony Lewis II, 53, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2005, in Austin. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he grew up in McKeesport, Pennsylvania and attended college in Morgantown, West Virginia. He earned a Bachelors degree in history from West Virginia University in 1975. Military service as a lieutenant in the Army then brought him to Fort Hood, Texas where he excelled in tank gunnery. Moving to Austin, he then completed a Masters degree in archeology at the University of Texas and worked several digs in Texas and beyond. Vocations have included carpenter, soldier, scientist and retail merchant. For many years he owned and operated the Village Hobby Shop along with a dedicated staff. Creative outlets included canoeing, caving, photography and constructing detailed ship models in wood and plastic. A history research paper earned him the title of Admiral in the Texas Navy. He was a member of the Naval Institute and participated in Nautical Research Guild trips and International Plastic Modelers Society national meetings at which he has been a prize-winning contestant and judge. George is survived by his wife since 1977, Phyllis Ogden Lewis, sister Isabella Williams with husband Marc Williams of Lafayette, Indiana, and nephew Richard Williams and family of Cincinnati, Ohio; and brother Paul S. Lewis with wife Maria Mendez-Lewis and nephew Daniel Lewis, all of Austin. The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 1, 2005 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home.
