Born July 10, 1949 in New Orleans, Louisiana, George was the second of eleven children born to Ivory Harris and Louise
Francis- Harris (both of New Orleans, Louisiana).
A native of New Orleans, George was educated in the Orleans Parish School District, and graduated high school with honors. In his senior year, George was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” by his class.
With a passion for learning, George continued his education after high school by attending Howard University in Washington, DC. While attending college, George made the decision to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served for two years.
Upon completing his military service assignment, George returned to New Orleans and continued his education at Southern University, where he graduated Suma Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. He then attended Oregon State University and received his Masters of Business Administration.
On December 23, 1972, George was united in matrimony with his beloved wife of 38 years, Marie Hargrave- Harris, and to their union two children were born- Nissa Tahani and Michal Jarrett. Those who knew George knew him to be a devoted and loving husband and a doting and encouraging father. An avid golfer, George liked to spend quality time on the golf course with his son Michal, and would do anything in the world for “his” Nissa.
Prior to taking ill, George saw over 30 years of success in his career in the computer technology industry in Austin. Beyond his professional career, however, George found an even greater happiness in the faith-based work he did. A faithful servant both at church and in the community, George was a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent for many years, and was also an active and dedicated member of the St. John Regular Baptist District Association Brotherhood (Austin, Texas).
Though he will be missed by many, George’s legacy will live forever in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved him.
George was preceded in death by his father, Ivory Harris.
He leaves to mourn his memory his loving wife of 38 years, Marie Harris; a daughter, Nissa Harris- Leonard (Eric) of Dallas, Texas; a son, Michal Harris of New Orleans; mother, Louise Harris of New Orleans, Louisiana; four sisters, Rita Harris and Janet Harris, both of New Orleans, Louisiana; Pauline Rogers (Rev.
