He received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Pan American University in 1963. Mr. Finch was a teacher at the Texas School for the Deaf in Austin for 25 years. President of Sons of American Revolution, Past President of Exchange Club of Austin, Scoutmaster of Boys Scout Troop 10 for over 40 years. George was also one of the original trainers for the Chaplain Program for the Capital Area Council of Boy Scouts of America.
He was preceded in death by his second wife, Mattie Elaine Finch; son, Benjamin Letcher Finch; and his mother and father.
George is survived by his wife of 28 years, Bonnie Henry Finch; his sister, Patricia Ann Finch; his six children, Brenda Cary, Clinton David Finch, James Melville Finch, Christopher Danford Finch, Leland Rex Henry III and Mattie Gene Finch; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 5:00 pm on Friday, November 26, 2010 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue with the Funeral Service to follow at 7:00 pm. Interment will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Blue Ridge Cemetery, Blue Ridge, Texas 75424 (near Melissa, Texas).
A fund will be established a Public Employees Credit Union (P.E.C.U.) to assist with medical expenses.
