Dr. Decherd was called home to God early Tuesday morning on May 12th at 79 years of age. George led a long, successful life as a father, husband, and medical professional. George was born in Galveston, TX on January 19th, 1936. He graduated from Austin High School at age 15 and went on to graduate from University of Texas at Austin at age 18 before attending UT Medical School in Galveston. He interned at Temple in Philadelphia, residency at Cleveland Clinic and then started Austin Urology Associates with Dr. Clary Bates in 1965 in Austin, Texas. In 1974 George met his wife, Mary, who worked at Seton Hospital and they married a year later.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; their children, Anne-Marie, George V, Kendall, Caroline, and Benjamin; George's brother, Jonathan and his wife, Holly; numerous nephews, grandchildren, and great-nieces. George leaves with us a legacy of love, generosity, humor, integrity, hard work, and joie de vivre.
Visitation will be at 6pm, Friday May 15th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home (3125 N. Lamar) with a Rosary to follow at 7pm.
Interment will be Saturday May 16th at 1pm at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive.
