Geneva Jordan, born in Salem, Illinois Sept. 3, 1922, passed away Oct. 13th at her home in central Austin. For those who knew her, Genny Jordan epitomized strength and heartiness, only contending with ill health the last few of her 85 years and enduring the debilitation of cancer these past 4 months. She lived well having found the key to a good life through work, home, family and play. In 1957, she founded Child Craft Schools, one of Austin's first licensed childcare centers. The original location on West 30th St. may actually be this city's oldest private center continuously owned and operated by the founder. Even though retirement was not in her plans, Genny had traveled the world with friends during her golden years and always she enjoyed dancing! She will be missed every day by surviving family members: Her husband of 65 years Leonard "Len" Jordan; two sons and their wives, Lenny & Kim Jordan and Ken & Harma Jordan; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jason Jordan & his two children Raelyn & Dawson, Steven Woods, Cynthia Woods and Kelsey Chase. Brother, Dewey Halfacre, survives residing with his wife, Patty in Granite Shoals. Sister-in-law Jane Woods lives in Odessa. In addition to family, Mrs. J leaves behind loyal employees and friends: Rachel & Joni Munoz, Manuel Corona, Pablo Espino and her longtime friend, Nora Loran of Lakeway. In honor of Mrs. Jordan, Child Craft Schools will be closed Wednesday, October the 17th, the day of her funeral service. The family wishes to thank the kind people of Odyssey Hospice and Visiting Angels for their assistance during these difficult weeks. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17th in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel with interment to follow at Austin Memorial Park.
