Gene Vasquez

Arthur Gene Vasquez, much loved husband, father, grandfather, neighbor and friend, passed away on February 11, 2014 at the age of 62. He was born in Austin, the sixth child of George and Vera Vasquez.

He graduated from McCallum High School and attended both ACC and St. Edwards University. During his career he worked for several Austin area nonprofit agencies as well as operating his own firm, Tru-Specs Construction. He was an avid and skilled woodworker who both learned from and taught many others with similar interests.

He leaves behind his wife Linda, son Aaron and his wife Rebecca, stepson Mike Longman and his wife Nancy and stepdaughter Robin Longman and her husband Lars Goransson as well as grandchildren Christopher, Emily and John Longman and Rayna and Matilda Goransson.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all of the friends and neighbors who came to sit with him during his lengthy hospital stay.

At Gene’s request he will be cremated and there will be no funeral service, but his family will receive visitors at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas from two o’clock until four o’clock on Saturday, the 15th of February 2014.
