Gene William Robertson (known to his grandchildren as Grandpa and PaPaw to his great grandchildren) was born in Prosper, Texas on July 31, 1934 and went to be with the Lord early Christmas morning, December 25, 2012 at his home in Round Rock, Texas.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Ida Mae Robertson. He is survived by his wife Gail Robertson; sisters Lavinia Williams of Arlington and Linda Somers of Melissa; children John Robertson and wife Connie of Georgetown, Billy Robertson and wife Teresa of Round Rock, and Lisa Bartling and husband Tab of Austin; grandchildren Stacey Robertson of Round Rock, Jessica Sustaita and husband Andrew of Helotes, Adam Bartling of Austin, Zane and Zach Robertson of Georgetown, and Lauren Bartling of Austin; great-grandchildren Derek and Daniel Sustaita.
Gene graduated from Sherman High School in 1953 and served in the U.S. Navy Reserves for six years, two of which were active duty during the Korean War, he was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Base in Illinois and also spent sea duty serving on the USS Knapp (DD-653). Gene received an Associate's Degree from Grayson County College.
Gene worked for IBM in Sherman until 1975 at which time they relocated him to Austin where he retired in 1997 after 40 years with the company.
Gene came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior in 1985 and became a faithful servant at Trinity Baptist Church where he served on the bus ministry and as Board member. Gene loved to witness and spread the word of God.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 29, 2012 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 2305 Forbes Dr. Austin TX with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Pastor David Burkholder officiating.
Pallbearers will be John Robertson, Billy Robertson, Zane Robertson, Zach Robertson, Tab Bartling and Adam Bartling.
In lieu of floral tributes, the family asks that you consider donations to the Bible Fund of Trinity Baptist Church of Austin.
