Gary Richard Gould was born on July 31, 1954 in Manhattan, New York. He was the middle child of three born to Muriel and Emmanuel Gould. Gary passed away unexpectedly on June 15th, 2021 at his home in Austin, Texas. He is remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, dedicated healer and therapist, supportive friend, mentor and colleague.
For those lucky enough to have been a part of Gary’s world this is a time of distinct loss. Professionally Gary earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin. Gary was an Eagle Scout who lived by the Boy Scout Law. He achieved a second degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and was an experienced and highly respected psychotherapist in private practice since 1996, specializing in the treatment of depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD. He was certified in EMDR and had a passion for treating military veterans, medical personnel and members of the law enforcement community. In 2005, he answered the call to participate in the critical incident response team following Hurricane Katrina. He was a “therapist’s therapist.”; immovably ‘there’ for those most used to being ‘there’ for others.
In his off-time Gary was a passionate photographer, an avid fisherman, equestrian, dog-lover, and gentleman rancher. Humble/shy, open to never-ending teasing from his girls, supportive, kind and always seeking to offer his heart and time to his family, friends and those in need.
Gary is survived by his wife, Lisa Powell-Gould, the light of his life; his sister Barbara Gould and brother Stephen Gould; his four daughters, Sarah Powell-Covelli, Dr. Evelyn Powell, Melanie Blount, and Kya Rose Gould; as well as his three daughters (by love, commitment, and declaration): Estephanie Garcia, Rebecca Reagan, and Ashley Williams; his grandchildren Santi and Eric; and his loved one’s partners Kimberly Slaven, Michael Covelli, Yesh McKinster, Grace Brady, Alberto Velazquez, Raul Quintanilla, and Marcel Alvarez.
A memorial service for Gary will be held Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Smith Chapel at Riverbend Church, 4214 N Capital of Texas Hwy, Austin, Texas 78746. Following the service at 4:00 pm there be "Gary's Birthday Celebration" at the County Line, 5204 FM 2222, Austin, Texas 78731
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to the EMDR Foundation which Gary held as a worthy cause. And the family requests that you intentionally seek out and enjoy the blessing of quality time with loved ones.
