Born and raised in the Texas Panhandle, Gail showed artistic talent as a child and pursued her interest in drawing and painting as she grew up. After graduating from Pampa High School in 1967 where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband Gene, Gail started her college career at the University of Texas at El Paso and finished at the University of Texas at Austin. It was at UT Austin that Gail’s discovery of her love of jewelry design and graphic design set her on her career path.
In addition to serving as a graphic designer for a book publishing company and several state agencies early in her professional life, Gail was a working jeweler for over forty years. Her sculpted pieces are recognized for the quality of their craftsmanship as well as the artistry of their design. Gail exhibited her work at galleries and art shows throughout the Southwest, often toting along daughter Laura, and delighted in the connections she made with customers and fellow artists.
Gail was incredibly kind, deeply compassionate, and infinitely creative. She was a devoted daughter and sister, loving wife, and the best mom in the whole wide world. Gail never met a stranger, and could be depended upon to send birthday cards (confetti inside) every year. She loved animals, especially cats, and kept careful watch over her beautiful irises.
Gail is survived by her husband of 48 years Gene Kincaid, her daughter Laura Kincaid, sister Ann Hoskins, brother Richard Donaldson and wife Nancy, sister Jill Donaldson, adopted sister Evelyn Johnson, nephews Joe Montgomery, Eric Kincaid and wife Wendy, Phillip Kincaid and wife Jennifer, nieces Uma Wilson and husband Shannon, Prabha Donaldson, great nieces and nephews Alicia, Wesley, Gavin, Alan, Abby, and Courtney, as well as by countless friends and associates.
Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 2 pm at University United Methodist Church, 2409 Guadalupe St, Austin, TX 78705. Mask required and casual dress encouraged.
