Fred A. Rothberger, 76, died peacefully with his family beside him on February 19, 2004, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. A native of Austin, he was born on June 15, 1927, to Anthony and Elfriede Rothberger. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Gene Morgan Rothberger. Survivors include his daughter Diana Franzetti; son Tony Rothberger and wife Debbie; daughter Nancy Kuznieski and husband Barney; daughter Barbara Gates and husband Bill; grandchildren Adam Franzetti and wife Kirsty; Leslie Gustafson and husband Michael; Shelby Shepherd and husband Nikolas; Cory Minten; Justin Minten; and Casey Kuznieski;step-grandchildren Dean Kuznieski and wife Ronda, their children Alexis and Jeremy, David Gates and wife Kay, and Lisa Vasquez and husband Joe; sisters Marie Roessing and Elizabeth Purcell; brother-in-law Jim Morgan and wife Pat and numerous nieces and nephews. During a tour with the U.S. Navy, Fred traveled to Antarctica with Admiral Byrd. Upon release from the Navy, Fred earned his bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. He was a professional librarian at UT for over 50 years. Fred was devoted to his family. He was a fixture at his childrens and grandchildrens events. He was passionate about traveling, visiting 48 states, numerous countries, and 5 continents. The family would like to thank Dr. Beth Hellerstedt and staff at Texas Oncology; the nurses on 7-North at Seton Medical Center; and Hospice Austin. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Austin or a charity of your choice. Visitation will be from 5:00 7:00 p.m., Sunday, with Rosary following at 7:00 p.m., at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., on Monday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 126 W. Oltorf. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery. Freds grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
