Frank Cimino, a local family and businessman, died Monday of pulmonary complications at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He was 59. Frank was born in Clinton, IA and grew up in Savanna, IL. He graduated from Loyola University in Chicago with a degree in Business Administration. After successful careers with GEs Real Estate Division and Jagger & Associates, he started various real estate partnerships and ventures in Canada and the Southwest. His career as a developer included several high-rise buildings in downtown Austin, subdivisions and master planned communities, most notably the Riata community in North Austin. Franks involvement in the community went beyond the development of first class real estate projects and included tenures on several local boards such as St. Michaels Academy, St. Edwards University, and the Neighborhood Longhorn Foundation. Frank was an avid UT fan, and was a mainstay at sporting events no matter the season. He was also a long time parishioner of St. Austin Church and a firm believer that faith is what gets us through our most difficult times. With all of his successes and accomplishments, he would want to be remembered first and foremost as a family man who emphasized giving back to the community and those in need. His great love for his wife and five children was incredibly apparent to all who knew him. He enjoyed attending their sporting events, choir and band performances, and teaching them to hunt and fish. But even more so, studying by their side, building models and science fair projects, or quietly sharing a book together gave him the most joy. For many years Frank struggled with his pulmonary affliction, but he faced it with courage and hope and considers the overwhelming support from friends, family and his St. Austin community as one of the most gratifying experiences of his life. Frank is survived by his wife of 20 years, Susan, sons Brion, Michael and James, daughters Jenelle and Francesca, daughter-in-law Julie, granddaughters Jordan and Brooke, and friends too numerous to mention. Franks family would like to thank Drs. Angel, Levine, Calhoon and Sanchez, along with the wonderful nursing staff at UTHSC for the gift of time and their incredible love and support. Visitation followed by the wake service and rosary will begin Sunday, April 2nd at 7:30 p.m. at St. Austin Catholic Church, 2026 Guadalupe Street. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, April 3rd at 10:00 a.m., also at St. Austin. Additional parking: Sunday only SW corner of 20th and Whitis and the lot at MLK and San Antonio; Monday only NE corner of 20th and Whitis (Dobie Mall Garage - mention funeral at St. Austin & no charge). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Lung Transplant Program at UTHSC, c/o Thoracic Surgery Division, Attn: Irma Garcia, 7703 Floyd Curl Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78229.
